Lise, I don't know if you remember, but one evening at NH you promised me a letter-course in French. So could you help me now? The first thing I would like to learn is how to say I don't speak French. I have noticed that at the moment it is the sentence I most need. Thanks for advance, Heidi

Thank u Joe, nice to see u here! I think it will work if I just get the pronunciation right( I have now clue of that, I think if I just don't say all the letters I will get away ). Anyway another thing that I often need Grenoble is to say that I don’t want coffee, but tea. They always ask in the ESRF canteen at the cash if I want coffee and I have tried to tell them that no I want tea, but they don’t give it to me. I never found out if it is only because they don’t understand me or they don’t have tea in there??

I don't have the slightest idea why it translated "that" in "thanksgiving", which is an american celebration for the first men who arrived on the new continent! In french "that" is "que" or "qui" (whether it is an object or a person) Back to work, I have some teaching to prepare for next week!

Excuse me people, this language course is serious business and u are just having a gossip here. But I forgive u, because I’m very grateful of the things u have teach me. There is one thing I would still like to know before Friday, so if anyone has time please answer. On Sunday I was watching rugby from tv5monde (which is the only channel in Finland where u can see rugby, there is some interesting movies also, but I don’t understand French so usually I don’t spend two hours just watching pictures, but maybe some day when I proceed in this course I will understand the movies also..) --..where was I, oh yes, watching rugby and then I realized that I can finally get a rugby ball (very hard to find in Finland) because I’m going to France and this time I even have some free time. I think I can recognize the right ball from the shop, because I do play the game, but I want to be sure that the ball is ladies size. So how to ask this?
